Work-in-progress updates are crucial for building client-designer relationships, and keeping your team and stakeholders across your projects.

But in-person meetings come with their own challenges: small talk, travel time, aligning calendars. And emailing PDFs around isn't a great solution. Without your guidance through it, your teams and clients could misinterpret your work, leading to misunderstandings or oversights.

Thankfully recorded presentations in Canva are here to allow your stakeholders to view your WIP at their convenience. So you can work smarter, not harder.

Here’s how:

Part 1

Record your updates to watch on-demand

We get it, clients invest time and money, so they want to contribute. Plus, when they do, their ownership increases, leading to faster and easier buy-in. Bringing stakeholders in every step of the way makes approvals easier later on. Good for them. Good for you.

We can’t do away with WIP presentations, but we can make them more efficient. Recording your presentation can allow you to explain your design choices in your own voice, ensuring no detail is lost in translation.

Your clients or colleagues can access and review the presentation at a time that suits them, regardless of where they are in the world, keeping the communication flowing and the project moving forward.

Part 2

Present at your own pace

Say goodbye to rushing through your slides. Instead, take the time to present at a pace that suits you, ensuring you hit all your key points and messages.

Step 1: Jump into the Recording Studio

With your design rationale open in Canva, head to the Uploads tab. Set up your camera and microphone and hit ‘Record yourself’. You'll see your presentation and yourself in a bubble on the screen.

Step 2: Lights, camera, pitch

As you navigate through your pitch, explain each point in detail. Once you're done, end the recording and exit the recording studio. A headshot video will appear on each slide in your deck.

Step 3: Share your pitch

From here, you can export your presentation as a video so your stakeholders can sit back and watch the pitch. Or you can create a view-only link so they can navigate through the slides at their own pace, with your talking head guiding them through the deck.

The best part? This process takes no longer than your regular delivery time, with all the benefits of face-to-face meetings and none of the logistical hassle.

Part 3

Make communication your USP

Want more ways to use recorded presentations? Here are a few ideas:

  • Team meetings: If there's a scheduling conflict, consider pre-recording your segment. This way, everyone still gets the opportunity to hear from you directly, and in a more engaging way than just your notes on a meeting agenda.
  • Training videos: Built a Brand Kit for your client? Why not record a presentation video where you guide them on how to use it so they never go off-brand?
  • Discovery sessions: So many insights are uncovered during this phase. What if you recorded a presentation for other departments to use, ensuring no learning goes to waste? You could talk through a brainstorm session on a whiteboard, and speak to each point in detail.
  • Whiteboard workflows: Encourage your clients to leave comments in the design as they watch your presentation. It’s a great way to engage on a personal level, and gather crucial feedback from your clients.

When it's about maintaining open communication with your clients, team, or stakeholders Canva is your ultimate partner.
