Spaniards

Introduction

Spain is so much more than just flamenco, paella and amazing beaches. This Western European country of vast beauty and rich history is home to 19 distinct regions with their own traditional gastronomy, celebrations, and customs; some even have their own language. Spaniards are proud of their cultural heritage, but the national identity is diverse and regionalistic.

The Spanish people are hospitable, open-minded, and respectful. They are very social, passionate about life and always find opportunities to celebrate and enjoy. But they also take pride in being hard workers and have strong family values.

In Spain life takes priority - Spaniards cherish their social life, they work to live, rather than live to work!

What do Spaniards

wear everyday?

Women wear mostly casual-style modern clothes day-to-day. Sneakers, jeans, tailored trousers, and t-shirts but with a fashionable and feminine edge. In the summer season, women tend to use more varied and bright colours, printed dresses, skirts, and shorts. In the winter season, they use darker and neutral colours.

Men in Spain usually wear casual-style clothes like chinos, jeans and tailored shirts and t-shirts in neutral colours (black, white, grey, brown, and navy). To add a more formal touch to an everyday outfit, they would simply add a blazer or replace the t-shirt with a long-sleeved shirt.

In the summer season, men mostly wear shorts or light jeans matched with a t-shirt or linen shirt. In the winter season, they wear sport-looking vests, jackets, or tailored coats over a simple sweater.

Traditional Attire

Spanish traditional clothing is internationally known for its decorative and flamboyant style. The outfits are very specific and change by region, with influences from Roman, Arab and Berber cultures.

The outfits date back to traditions that are still celebrated today such as Flamenco dancing in Andalucía and Fallas in Valencia. While you won’t see people walking down the street wearing these clothes on an average day, they are on full display during town festivals and fairs.
