Language
Portuguese is the official language in Brazil, although its pronunciation is far from homogenous. You can hear as many as 20 accents throughout the national territory.
It’s not the same Portuguese…
Brazilian Portuguese is so different from European Portuguese that even natives from each country can misunderstand one another. Curiously, several ordinary words in European Portuguese have insulting connotations in Brazilian Portuguese.
Besides that, verbs in the gerund form are more common in Brazil, while Portuguese people prioritise the infinitive form.
Estou criando 🇧🇷 > Estou a criar 🇵🇹 > I am creating 🇺🇸
Indigenous languages heavily influenced Brazilian Portuguese, which resulted in notable words such as açaí, jaguar, guaraná, ipanema, and tucano.
